When we launched a Year of Social Engagement last Ash Wednesday, February 6th, we said that amidst the national crisis we face, we are particularly disturbed by the crisis of hopelessness and distrust in national political leaders and institutions resulting from the many unresolved questions of injustice and abuse of power under the Arroyo government.  Moreover, we are concerned by the palpable crisis of political disempowerment and disengagement, especially among the youth. That is why we said that our aim is to foster social consciousness and engagement that would help build democratic institutions and hope in sociopolitical action.
