To the Members of the Lasallian Family:
Greetings of Peace and Solidarity!
I would like to share with you the Philippine Lasallian Family Statement on the Maguindanao Massacre. The statement has been passed through the members of the District Council and the Lasallian Partners Council.
With this, I encourage all our LS institutions and communities to disseminate the statement and conduct any of the suggested activities below:
1. Read the statement in classes or assemblies;
2. Discuss and process among our young Lasallian learners the issue. This can be integrated in a prudent and creative way in Social Science, Christian Living or Theology/Religious Education;
3. Conduct FGDs or assemblies to discuss the issue among the adult sector of the community; teachers, administrators and staff;
4. Students can write letters to the editors expressing their concern on the issue;
5. Schools can make their own statement in unity with the victims;
6. Organize indignation peace prayer rallies and candle lighting for the victims can be done in front of our schools;
7. Hang tarps to express our collective despair on our cry against the massacre.
Finally, let this issue be a teaching moment for all of us, a time to reflect on our own ways of viewing the power that we all possess. As the statement emphasizes that we cannot remain silent on the abuses of national authorities, we also should start to be much more sensitive to and change practices and policies in our own communities.
Fraternally,
