Dear Brothers and Lasallian Partners,
Peace and solidarity!
The massacre of 57 people that happened in Ampatuan town in Maguindanao on November 23, 2009 left the entire nation and even the international community in disbelief especially on how brutal, barbaric and heinous the crime was executed. The enormity of the crime was such, that it elicited immediate outcry from the public, including statements of condemnation from various sectors and organizations, including the Philippine Lasallian Family.
In an official statement that was issued last week by the Philippine Lasallian Family, we expressed our outrage for such horrendous act of violence. We felt that as an institution of faith and learning, we ought to stand for what is true and just, to speak against abuses of national authorities, to reflect on our own ways of viewing the power that we all possess, and to allow this event to be a teaching moment for all of us.
The Lasallian Justice & Peace Commission and the Center for Social Action of the De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde would like to invite you to join us in a forum entitled “Understanding the Maguindanao Massacre; Remembering the Victims” on December 2, 2009 Wednesday, 4:00pm in De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde Theatre, Taft Avenue, Manila.
Please find attached the concept paper and the program for your reference.
We hope that you can be with us in our effort to bring deeper understanding of the issue and encourage Filipinos to be more vigilant and responsive to the challenge of pursuing truth and justice.
