Centennial Countdown. Today 16 June 2010, all 17 District schools began the countdown to the centennial celebration which will officially commence exactly one year today. All schools began their countdown with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Each school prepared its own program. Among the activities were the unveiling of the Centennial logo, re-enactment of the coming of the first Brothers and the planting of the Centennial tree. While DLSU excavated their time capsule, entombed during the Greenovation in 2000, LSU buried theirs. It was an opportunity for Lasallians to recommit to some of the District projects such as the One La Salle Scholarship fund and the One Million Trees. Most schools held the countdown in the presence of many members of the Lasallian Family. (Grace Lazo)

Canonical Visit to the Residencia Community. I visited the Brothers staying at the Residencia community in Dasmariñas at the beginning of the month (3 – 5 June). There are five Brothers in the community namely, Br. Dennis (Community Director), Br. Gus, Br. Lazaro, Br. Mario and Br. Richie. Br. Dennis travels every day to De La Salle Santiago Zobel (sometims he bikes). Helping him out is Br. Lazaro Rodriguez who teaches Grade 3 students and took over from Br. Ceci in the animation work of the students and faculty. Br. Gus is still President of the two campuses in Dasmariñas. He is ably assisted by Br. Mario in the University. Br. Richie travels to De La Salle Canlubang daily. He is Director of the Lasallian Mission Office and moderator of the Integrated School Student Council.

I met the Brothers on the evening of 5 June to give feedback on the community and answer their questions regarding District, regional and institute concerns. We ended with dinner prepared specially by Br. Gus. I am grateful to the community for the wonderful fellowship and fraternity I experienced during my visit.

Br. Gus Boquer FSC at St. Mary’s College. Br. Gus has been invited to by Br. Ron Gallagher FSC, President of St. Mary’s College of California to be their guest speaker at the College Convocation on 06 April 2011. The College Convocation will be the highlight of the De La Salle Week. Br. Gus will give a 10 – 15 minute address of the experience of the District in the area of tertiary education. For those of you who remember, Br. Gus studied at St. Mary’s for his Masteral degree in Educational Leadership! Mabuhay ka Br. Gus!
